One conversation she did feel up to having was about hair loss. One woman has this beautiful, expensive wig her daughter's soccer team bought through fundraising. Another older woman knits hats with hair-like fringes around the edges. Mom told everyone about how she's never had to shave her legs or armpits and never grows hair on her arms. Of course, I told everyone that when I was going through puberty I was completely sure I was a freak when my Puerto Rican fuzziness came in and my Mom was like, "Wow, that's weird!"
So far, Mom doesn't have any interest in getting a wig but we did get her a leopard print hat when we went visiting Tyrone. Ross has been good to us - shout out to Cousin Bobbie! She's also put in a request to Auntie Do for one of her famous knit lei to go with her leopard print hat as well as a purple knit cap.
Today's picture is for Pualani - who noted that the photographer often doesn't show up in the frame...

What an adorable photograph of Kumu Luana and her beautiful mother! Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress--we are sending hugs of support to Lu and Uncle Michael from the Bay Area!
